When life gives you lemons...

choose wisely which ones are worth squeezing! 🍋

This past week I was at a conference and heard this fascinating talk* about Burnout. It made me realise that I have been teetering on the edge of burnout, not in my career, but at home as a mother to a sleepless toddler with little to no support network. 


As mothers, we often feel the pressure to be superhuman, constantly giving our all at the expense of our own health and wellbeing. I don't regret giving my all, but I’ve come to understand that I have been in survival mode for over a year now!


I also realised that we all feel 'rundown' at times, which is perfectly normal after a long day at work and the heaviness of our daily responsibilities, for example. But we can still function, rest and feel better the next day. In contrast, 'burnout' is chronic stress exposure resulting in emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion, that can prevent you from performing even the simplest of tasks. 


The good news is that although we ALL experience stress, we can actively prevent burnout if we do 2 things:


  1. Remember to Rest - Recharge - Reset

  2. Try to separate necessary from unnecessary stress and only use your energy to tackle the necessary ones - When life gives you lemons, choose wisely which ones are worth squeezing! 🍋
